Dr Isaac Mukula, who attended to the victims, confirmed that both guards sustained critical gunshot wounds.

Security teams from the Uganda Police Force and the Uganda People’s Defence Forces later cordoned off the scene and deployed a sniffer dog in an attempt to track the suspects. However, the trail went cold after it was established that the attackers escaped using a motorcycle.

Investigators collected evidence at the scene, including spent cartridges and blood samples, as they continued efforts to reconstruct the sequence of events surrounding the robbery.

One of the station attendants, Dennis Koye Adiya, said he survived after complying with the robbers’ instructions, noting that the assailants initially fired bullets into the air before demanding cash.

Employees, led by Allan Shaba, have since appealed for increased security at the petrol station, saying it was the second armed attack on the facility within a year.

Kampala Metropolitan Deputy Police Spokesperson Luke Owoyesigire confirmed the incident and said police recovered a firearm abandoned at the scene after one gun was reportedly stolen during the robbery.

The recovered weapon has been taken to Mukono Police Station as investigations continue.
